How to update your Samsung android device manually to Jelly Bean 4.1.2

Before an update is released for your phone in your region, you can update your android version manually and easily. All you need to do is just downloading the new android version files and Odin. What you need to do is listed and told below.

  • Downloading suitable file for your device.
  • Downloading Odin.
  • Starting your phone on download mode.
  • Connecting phone to computer while it is on download mode.
  • Selecting OS file that you downloaded from Odin and starting update.
  • Enjoying your updated new phone.

There can be some problems about the process below. You should know that anything you do to your phone is under your responsibility but I can truly say that I have done my phone as I tell and didn't face any problems.

WARNING - You should back up your files and contacts before you start this. I didn't lose any data but you may want to save your data just in case.

I - Downloading ROM file for your device

You should find your device at this site and find the last published version of android. Click this link. Then find your device model from the drop-down menu at the left of the page. Then you'll see a list of published android versions for your device.  You can learn your phone model from the settings of your phone. Settings -> About Device -> Model number.

VERY VERY IMPORTANT WARNING - If you download a ROM file that doesn't belong to your device this operation can brick your phone and you may never use it again.

The 'region' means the location that the android version published. If your region is here you may update your phone as I told previousy on this page. If it doesn't work continue this tutorial.

If your region is not on the list then you can download  version for any other country. (I have chosen Spain even if I am not there) After downloading it extract it too. In the extracted folder you'll see a file like I9100XWLS8_I9100XXLS8_I9100FOPLS3_HOME.tar.md5 . We'll use it later at step 5.

II - Downloading Odin and starting it

Then you need to download Odin from this link and extract the files from the rar file you download. Now open the folder and start Odin.

III - Starting your phone on download mode

To start download mode you need to switch the phone off and press three buttons at same time. Power on + volume down + home.  It should start now on download mode.

IV - Connecting phone to computer

You shouldn't connect your phone to computer before reaching this step. To connect the phone it should be started on download mode and Odin must be running on your computer. While Odin is open on your computer, connect the phone to the computer. Then there will appear your phone on the top bar of Odin.

V - Selecting ROM file and setting options

Now look at the option part in the Odin. (at left below the top bar) Only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options must be selected. Actually these must be default options. They must be selected when you start Odin. Then there is another part at the right of the option part called Files [Download].  There are several buttons but you just need to click to PDA. Now find and select the .md5 file that you have downloaded. (I mentioned at the end of the first step) And then press START.

VI - Final

Do not disconnect your phone from the computer. When update is complete your phone will open itself directly. Then you'll see the new version working in it. When I followed these steps I didn't lose any data in my phone. I hope you won't encounter any problem and will update it easily too. Good luck.
